Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

Wednesday, December 24, 2008

I took this picture on Sunday during sunset when it was just finishing snowing. I loved the trees all covered in white and the pink sky in the back ground.

Happy Christmas Eve.

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas

Friday, December 19, 2008

Hadley and I got to Connecticut yesterday just in time before the big snow hit. The prediction is for 8-14", but it was at least 5" when my Dad and I headed out for round one of shoveling their 160' driveway. He used the monstrous snow blower and I did clean up with the shovel. I even got to run the blower for a bit. I felt proud that my Dad would trust me with it. Kind of like the first time he gave me keys to his brand new Grand Am when I was 16 and let me drive to the grocery store to get milk. Of course I took advantage of the situation and went to a store three towns over so I could drive further.

It was great fun to be outside. Just when I would finish the walk, I would turn around and another inch had fallen. It felt like shoveling in circles. We finally had to just come in, otherwise I would still be out there trying to make it perfect.

We are hoping that the snow will stick so DG can have a White New England Christmas.

On Dasher on Dancer on Prancer on Gibson

Thursday, December 11, 2008

Tica would have been in this shot if she were not a total wuss that hated snow. Compared to her first experience with snow, Hadley fared much better this time and enjoyed feeling the cold white stuff. Wake up Hadley, it's SNOWING! YAY!

Almost Famous

Wednesday, January 24, 2007

I've been getting a lot of requests for updates on the ice rink. We were holding out to give more news because two weeks ago a NY Times reporter contacted DG about doing a story on our backyard rink for the outdoor living section of their magazine. She had done a search and found DGs blog entry. We were not only excited but also abuzz about the power of the BLOG!

After several phone calls and emails, DG learned yesterday that they decided to go with a story of a Michigan man who builds an ice wall in his backyard. Definitely an edgier story.

It is probably for the best. Two weeks ago, we started watering the hole in our yard for hours at a time with the sprinkler. We got some good layers of ice, but it is not as smooth as we want. We got a squeegie and plan on trying to finish it this weekend anyway. Though there are two frozen poopsicles in it already. (sorry mom)

Brilliant Idea #5

Monday, January 08, 2007

Q: Wouldn't it be awesome if we dug out the back yard and made an ice skating rink?

A: YES (Emphatic)

Step 1: Dig up some snow in your back yard. I love how this picture makes it look like I have been shoveling for hours, when really I just came out of the house to have my picture taken.

Step 2: Level out your rink. (Pre- 2 X 4, there was an attempt to pull me and gibson around on a card table.)

Step 3: Start spraying it with water over several hours. Still working on this one. Check back for more.

NOTE:DG and I, unbeknowst of it, wrote the same entry and posted them almost simultaneously. His is 5 minutes earlier than mine.

What happened to through rain, snow and dead of night? So our xmas cards to you all will be late! Sorry, so sad, but my man is happy! weeeeeeeeeeeee

Monday Night

This morning

It's our first snow of the season. Don't feel sorry for us though. DG especially LOVES it. Cool things about snow:
1) Hot coffee tastes even better
2) I get to wear my white puffy vest
3) My snowflake socks are really warm
4) Gibson loves rolling around in it
5) DG is in a perpetually good mood
