Showing your Boobies in Public

Tuesday, July 03, 2007

While we were out a few week-ends ago, we noticed signs for a nurse-in, as a protest for a woman being harrassed at a local amusement park for nursing her baby in public. As we passed by, I joked that there were 7 women and 40 men there in support. *giggle* You can read the full article here.

It is completely legal in the US for women to breast feed in public, though each state has their own rules on the books. What I find to be the worst part of this story is that when she recited her rights to the police, it was like they were hearing this law for the first time. They did not enforce the law at all, rather they continued to threaten to kick the woman out if she did it again.

This all brings me back to my own boobies and how they are growing during the pregnancy. Yet another disappointment in life, as I always thought my crowning glory would be the day I would fill an Double D cup bra when I was pregnant. Ok, maybe I also thought that I would grow breasts that look like a porn star. That even with my big belly, Hugh Hefner would finally come calling for me to do a cover shoot with my hot new boobs. Well, unfortunately those boobs only come on the plastic surgery tree and I am left wondering what all the fuss is about. I'm also left trying to figure out why DG never looks me in the eye anymore?

Still in Love with Public Transportation

Friday, June 22, 2007

Since I work from home, I don't get to take public transportation anymore. DG drives .7 miles to the lightrail station every morning to zip into work. The lightrail was recently completed to run along the highway in an effort to lessen highway traffic. It is so handy.

I had a hair appointment last night and because the traffic was so heavy with the Yankees being in town, I decided to try the light rail for the first time. It was so fun, kind of like riding a roller coaster in some places.

I loved being downtown with all the hubbub going on. I miss the energy. I was inspired to cut off all of my hair too. It's hasn't been this short in 3 years. I don't have any pictures yet, though I'm sure DG will get out the camera this week and take some excrutiatingly painful photos of me unshowered, bent over, bra strap hanging out in some awkward belly hanging position. Then he'll decide it's his new favorite photo and post it on flickr. Stay tuned.

Oh yeah, and the Rockies spanked the Yankees in all three games. *ouch*

We're in!

Monday, May 07, 2007

After 12 hours of moving and 3 days of unpacking, we are in our new house.

Saturday morning we got up early, literally when the sun woke us up due to no window coverings in our new house. We headed back to our old place to clean for 3 hours. *sniff* It was so sad.

As many of you already know, the sale of our house fell through. But we are confident that it will go again. The Skyland neighborhood is the last Goldmine in Denver and one of the last affordable areas with rising home prices. It is listed here as one of the next up and coming neighbor hoods in the country in a survey by Business Week.

We so badly had wanted to keep our house and hold onto it for several years, but we just could not make it work. The person that ends up buying it is going to make great money on it. Since we were so involved with our Neighborhood Association, we also know how many people in that neighborhood are fighting to make it an even better place, planting trees, encouraging new businesses, fighting crime etc. Though in the 4 years that I lived there, not once did I have a break-in or car theft where my friends living other more affluent neighborhoods had all of the above. We also knew the names of EVERY neighbor on our block, can you all say the same? Oh and did I mention that a police officer lives across the street?

The Joys of Volunteering

Sunday, March 04, 2007

A couple of months ago, David and I joined our Neighborhood Association, also known as the NCPCA which stands for North City Park Civic Association. Upon joining, we found out that the President's wife needed help with the newsletter. Here's where David and I jumped at the chance to do some volunteer work.

The newsletter is 6 pages and runs every month. I project manage it, gather the articles, edit them all, then pass it on to David who does the full layout. I take it back, edit it again, send it to print and have it delivered to the President's house where his wife has a group of volunteers that hand deliver it to 1,400 homes in our neighborhood. Labor intensive? Um yeah. You can view January and February here.

The last time we volunteered was two years ago to pack Baskets of Joy that are delivered to the needy during the Holidays. Unfortunately David had signed us up for this event that started at 7am, the day after our annual holiday party. When we arrived, still drunk from the night before, we were too late to stuff the baskets. Not wanting to leave without helping, we were put to work delivering the baskets in the downtown area. It was a meager 4 hours out of our day, yet the majority of the people loved getting their gifts.

It makes us wish we had more time to get out there and do more for people. What can you do in your city?

Lasciviousness in City Park

Friday, February 23, 2007

The weather has been beautiful this week. A tropical paradise at 50+ degrees. I was able to get out and take a run. It's my new thing! Though I'm not winning any speed records, but that's another blog post. This post is about what I think I see going on at City Park, as I run through it on my way home.

I run inside the park in the traffic lane which is lined with cars. My first question is what is everyone doing in the park at noon? Shouldn't they be at work? Every car has someone in it. hmmmm. Sometimes an entire car load. Sometimes just 2 people in the back seat. ::ahem:: And sometimes you can't see who is in the car because it is filled with smoke, a distinctly smelling smoke. I think the kids these days call it weed. ::cough cough::

These people are not out for a picnic, or bringing their dogs for a run. My imagination runs wild with the possibility of what is going down at the park. It's enough to make me feel wierd alone in the park at noon.
