Baby Products

Monday, April 07, 2008

Because I, like most youth obsessed women, am a sucker for beauty products, years ago I bought Paula Begoun's "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me." I talked about it first here. For years, I used this make-up Bible to clean out old products and purchase new non-irritating make-up. Well, Paula just came out with the 7th edition of the book and even though we do not have it yet, you can view some youtube clips of her book tour here. Knowledge is power.

We also use her face products because they are basic and inexpensive. We even just started using her shampoo, which is great, and in our last order DG got me some of her constant color lip paint which I love so much that I just bought a bunch more colors because it is on clearance for $5!

Now I am going through and looking at the baby products that she reviews. I am just so annoyed with stupid companies making crap products for us to put on a baby's skin. Why do they call it "sensitive skin formula" when they've put a bunch of ingredients in it that cause irritation? It's more annoying than poison oak on a hot summer day. You can read the baby product reviews here. The main one that I see we use is Butt Paste. We got it mostly for the great name, but have been using it occasionally if Hadley gets a little red. We've been lucky that she hasn't gotten full blown diaper rash. **knock on the diaper changer** But now we have to toss it.

Good-bye Sweet Harry Potter

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

I have finished the last Harry Potter book. Though, I am apparently a slow reader compared to some people. But I tried my best not to rush through it and read EVERY word. It was worth it and even had a decent ending. It went too fast though and now I'm trying to get DG to go to the movie with me.

Muggle Mania

It began years ago when Cynthia's mother bought me my first copy of the first Harry Potter book. She had heard that it was all the rage. "It's what all the kids are reading these days." And knowing my love of books and being in a book club, she sent it to me. I was captured in Chapter 1 and she continued to send me copies for years. I've been a fan ever since and was wondering if anyone else did the geeky thing and pre-ordered their own copy of the book to be delivered by Saturday.

I know at least one of you did. Hands raised, anyone, anyone, Bueller?

Tartalicious

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

It's been awhile since I have been to bookclub due to the wedding and honeymoon, but I am back on track with our last book, Tortilla Curtain. I don't even want to name this book, and am not giving you a link to it. Don't read it, it's dull, a waste of time, and infuriating in the sense that you want to throw it across the room. It can be compared to the movie version of Cold Mountain in the sense that the amount of despair put on one couple is unfathomable. They live in a canyon, then one of them gets hit by a car, then they lose all their money, then they can't afford to eat, then they get beaten with a baseball bat, then one of them gets raped, then they lose all their money again, then she has a baby in a shed, then they are starving, then the baby is blind, then the baby floats down the river...gawd, who cares?

What I did enjoy however, was seeing the ladies at bookclub and eating a great meal.

And now for something completely different, my bookclub pick, Tart by Jody Gehrman. This was recommended to me by Cyn who has a fun hip urban friend that read and enjoyed it. This alone was my basis for picking the book, well that and it's title. Ok, the title had a lot to do with it you Saucy Tart.
