The Future is Bright

Saturday, August 25, 2007

My dad has a saying that goes something to the effect of "Life is really good until it is not."

My mom had a serious heart attack this week and though she is in good spirits and expected to make a full recovery, life has been difficult. I'll be traveling back to the East Coast to spend time with my parents in a few days. Please keep our family in your thoughts.

My Unborn Daughter has more clothes than I do!

Thursday, August 23, 2007

No Seriously. I've received cases of clothes. Thank goodness someone left a bag of infant hangers out on our porch recently. Jinnie brought over an entire bin last night of 6-12 months. Oooh, the tiny shoes. I wish I could dress her up right now. I think that maybe she will be better dressed than I. *gasp*

Let the Nesting Begin

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

This week-end DG started cleaning out the garage which is still filled with unpacked boxes. Our hopes are to be able to park in there before snow hits. We got into an organization mode and even decorated the guest bedroom by putting in a book case and hanging pictures on the wall. It's the one room in the house that we never go into, and the one room that is closest to being finished. It's nicer than our bedroom. I go in there once a day just to look at it and enjoy it.

And as an added bonus to our guests, the room comes equiped so that you can totally Rock OUT during your stay.

Crib, Check!

Monday, August 20, 2007

DG and I went to a baby store around the corner from us that was recommended and wouldn't you know they were having a sale on cribs. Since we are entering the end of the stretch, we realized that this was something we better start thinking about. So we purchased our crib! This crib will also become a bed that she can have until she goes away to college.

Also, through a few moves, DG has saved a white dresser as well, so we are 2/3 of the way to furnishing the baby's room. Now we are looking for a changing table on Craigs List.

I can soon start to unpack the boxes of girls clothes that I have been given. I think I have enough clothes to dress 10 girls 0-6 months old.

Parenthood Practice

Thursday, August 16, 2007

David's parents came to town last week to babysit our niece Bloom for the week-end while her parents were out of town. Friday night, we drove up to have dinner at Efrains, our favorite mexican restaurant in Lafayette, CO. All the waitresses at Efrains know Bloom, and knew her order by heart. Cheese quesadilla and pinto beans. Bloom also likes tortilla chips, dipped in water. She was an angel and we had a great time.

The Piece That Fits My Part

Tuesday, August 14, 2007

Prior to getting married, I always told DG that he was my missing piece, the missing piece in my puzzle, the piece that fits my part. I see where you mind is going, stop it! Well we've joked about this for years and he even incorporated the puzzle theme into our logo which was on our wedding invitation.

So it's only fitting that for a first anniversary gift, which is traditionally paper, that I gave him a puzzle. I ordered it on Shutterfly and it could not have turned out better. 252 pieces and a decorative tin to go with it. I can't wait to spend time putting it together. DG bought me the most beautiful notecards that have a "C" on them in pink and green flowers with a little bee. In addition to paper, the more modern gift for a first anniversary is a time piece or clock. So I also received a sand hourglass. So cute.

We'll keep the fire on for you.

Monday, August 13, 2007

Welcome to our new guest house in the back yard.

We have started collecting hand-me-downs for the baby girl from all of our friends. This little gem came from David's boss. David picked it up, hosed it down and proceeded to assemble it in the back yard. We figure we'll just keep it out there for when we have kids over.

I think David's afraid that he might have to sleep out there some night, as I am growing so big, I'm slowing creeping over to his side of the bed and taking over. But with a bed of tree bark, plenty of windows and a cozy fireplace, what more could you ask for in a log cabin? Now if only we can convince the dogs that it is not their new out house.

ONE YEAR

Friday, August 10, 2007

One year ago today, we were getting ready to head to the wedding rehearsal. Our close friends and relatives had all come to town and were on their way over to our house to hang out and eat food. It was a magical time for us that we look back on with fond memories.

Holy crap, DG and I have been married for one year! The actual date is this Sunday, but we will be going out Saturday night to celebrate. Here's to eternity, and children.

Urban Girl Turns into SubUrban Scrapbooking Momma

Thursday, August 09, 2007

I guess I knew it may happen some day. That I may turn into the person that is not as cool as they think they are. I just didn't know it would be quite so soon.

I've been wanting to make a journal for the baby, so that some day she could look back and get a glimpse of what DG and I were going through these nine months and take a peek at popular culture in 2007. I've been saving ticket stubs from Baby's first concert and Baby's first movie etc. I just thought I would get a cheap little blank book and write notes to her and glue stuff in it. But isn't that really called SCRAPBOOKING?

So last week, I found myself at Michael's when after grabbing the Jordan Almonds, I entered the scrapbook aisle. One scrapbook and a kit later, I am documenting each month.

I have learned that Scrapbooking is an art that I have not yet mastered. March is a bit rough. Apparently it is a necessity to have the proper tools and a good set of Markers.

April gets a little better when I whip out the stickers.

Finally by May, I am starting to get the hang of it. I used a snowflake punch to turn the shards into flowers. At this point, I am a bit addicted and can see how this can turn into an obsession to buy more scissors, prints, and punches.

That's as far as I've gotten. Hopefully it will get better.

People Treat Pregnant Ladies Real Nice

Tuesday, August 07, 2007

I've branched out from my standard wardrobe of muumuu like dresses, into some maternity tank tops and capris. The dresses have been hiding the baby pretty well, disquising me a bit so I don't look quite pregnant. When in a tank top however, there's is no question of "fat or pregnant?", there's just, oooh, PREGNANT.

I'm not used to people staring at my belly, it's a bit of a phenomenon. But today, the cashier at our local grocery store looked down before she looked up and then was so nice to me. She wanted to make sure she bagged the groceries as easy as possible to that I didn't strain myself. She also wanted someone to help me out to the car. I could get used to this.

Me-N-Tara

Monday, August 06, 2007

This week-end, my friend Tara that I met in Indiana came to visit. She is one of those friends that is so easy going, that even if you do not see her for a few years, when you meet up again, it's just like picking up where you left off. When DG asked us how we met, Tara had a great story. "We had a friend who always dated crazy girls that none of us liked. One day he told us he was dating a really great girl and he wanted us all to meet her. We were all very sceptical and then we met Christy and knew she was by far the coolest girl ever."

Well the guy is long gone, but Tara and I have been friends ever since. We both left Muncie about the same time. She headed to NYC to design clothes and currently works for Macy's as a designer for their Charter Club line. Over the years we have kept in touch and managed to see each other quite a bit.

She only stayed for one night, so we made the most of it and headed out for dinner at Lola, a coastal Mexican restaurant. We had to order the guacamole as they bring a cart to your table and make it fresh there in front of you. We also invited Jeff to come out with us as his wife and kids are out of town. It's nice to see Jeff eat an entire meal like a normal person without chasing kids around.

The Week I Didn't Have to Cook

Thursday, August 02, 2007

At the beginning of our courtship, DG planned a date where he made dinner for me. I drove 40 minutes North to the condo where he was living, in Lafayette, CO for a gourmet meal of under-cooked grilled salmon, boiled potatoes and green beans (or asparagus, I can't remember, but I don't want to be accused of not being accurate). Let's just say he did not woo me with his culinary talents. And that night, it was Mr. Gibson the lover dog that did all the wooing. Since then, except for his amazing chili and the occasional Valentine's Day, I have done all the cooking. This is quite ok with both of us.

But pregnancy changes everything. Because nothing ever sounds good to eat, and food just isn't the same, I have lost the desire to cook. During the first trimester, there were several nights that I served up frozen taquitos as a meal. This coming from the woman who cooks 5 nights a week and insists on a protein, carb, and veggie at every meal.

Sunday night, after having eaten out an excessive 6 times that week-end, DG took the reins and suprised me by offering to cook every night for a week. I think he was hoping that I would turn him down and let sense take a hold with a quick reminder of his cooking skills. But honestly I was ON BOARD and left wondering if he could take over the next two weeks. He layed out a 5 day meal plan and even though nothing sounded good, I didn't care because it meant I DON'T HAVE TO COOK! Wheeeeeeeee.

We are now on Day 4 of DGs cooking extravaganza and I'm definitely not starving and the baby is getting healthy proportions of food. I still don't want to cook, and I am perfectly happy cleaning the kitchen after dinner. But I think DG is running out of ideas and learning the planning that has to go into a week's worth of meals. It's a nice lesson for both of us.

Bloom is Three!

Wednesday, August 01, 2007

This week-end our niece turned three years old and we were priviledged to attend her pool party. When the birthday girl arrived at the party, she was toting her purse like any modern woman would, and would announce to anyone that asked that she was THWEEE and hold up her fingers. The morning zoomed by as I chit chatted with all the moms there. Then the cupcakes were eaten. I watched with interest as the energy level in the room exploded. As the frenzy of activity went up, I realized that this was my future. And then I realized that this was ok.
