Parenthood

We have had a whirlwind of a week adjusting to parenthood. Everyone says "Oh you wait! Your lives will never be the same." To them, we say "WHATever", with a capital W. We are so in love with being parents. Not only has Hadley brought our little family closer together, but we are both so in love with her and each other that I could turn this blog into a big dripping sticky sweet mess of lovey dove dub, a bunch of love in a tub all gooey and smooshy with sugar on top. In fact, we are so moved by her, that we are brought to tears throughout the day.
Seen above is her first car ride to visit her new pediatrician last Friday. She was born with a bit of jaundice, but thanks to moms steady feeding schedule, we seem to have nipped that in the bud.
We are going through so many new experiences that I don't know which to blog about first. Here are a few tasty morsels for you. Coming soon: The Labor, Poop in Your Hand, Pee on Your Leg, and Other Joys of Parenthood

Yaaayyyy! I have been checkin in every day for an update. I guess you have been busy? The picture is so adorable, with her extra long sleeves and cute little hat. What a cutie-pie! Is her jaundice all better?
Glad to hear you are so happy and ooey-gooey wuvyduvy! Tell me all about it! I want to hear all the wonderful details!
Which Graco car seat do you have?
I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for "Poop in your Hand". Especially if it's meconium poop, not that lightweight breastfed stuff.
Glad Hadley is being a good eater and chasing the jaundice away. I'm still amazed that we were sent home with our yellow baby and just some advice to "give him sunlight". It was January!
I really think that babies are designed perfectly for the parent's learning curve. You have a few weeks when all they do is sleep, eat and poop. It gives you time to adjust before the baby's real awareness kicks in and you have to deal with separation anxiety, boredom and over-stimulation. By then you've gotten to know her well enough that you can adapt to each new thing. You guys are going to do great. ENJOY!
Her jaundice levels rose steadily her first few days and the pediatrician at the hospital was pretty concerned about it. We were heading into the weekend, we weren't sure if my milk was coming in, etc. They suggested that I supplement breast feeding with some formula, but I am COMMITTED to feeding via boob only. So I hunkered down and fed every 2 hours or so and guess what? It worked! Her levels started leveling off and she got back up to her birth weight. We were relieved. The pediatrician also told us that you can't just put a baby into the light. Windows filter the rays they need, and they would need to sit out naked all day in the sun without sunscreen to get the appropriate amount of light. Scary stuff.
Glad that you are saying WHATever to folks! Bill and I barely can remember our old life before kids and would never want it back. Our kids still make us well up with tears at our love and amazement at them and they aren't even still sweet tiny bundles like Hadley!
