The Neti Pot
Tuesday, February 27, 2007

DGs friend Erica came over for breakfast last weekend. Erica is a free spirit and has the ability to make you think outside of the box and we always end up having great discussions when she is around.
Last week-end, she convinced me that I needed a Neti Pot. Before I tell you what a Neti Pot is, go here to watch this video instruction of how it works. Warning: This is not an SNL skit. Watching this video may make you sneeze or scrunch up your nose in horror.
I have had sinus issues my whole life and for the past week I have had some problems. So even though Erica's description included phrases such as, "I'm not going to lie to you, it burns" and "You put this thing up your nose and pour fluid in so it comes out your other nostril" I decided to do it anyway. You buy the pot above, fill it with warm water and 1/4 tsp. of non-iodized salt. Then you put the spout up your nostril, tilt your head, and bottoms up. It is totally creepy at first, but after a few times, it is like riding a bike.
I have used it for 3 days in a row, and though it has not fixed my original problem it has helped to clean me out and moisten my sinus cavity. I will be asking my doctor tomorrow about it. Stay tuned!

LOVE my neti pot!!! My girlfriend in Phoenix started using her's when she was having sinus issues during her pregnancy. She got me hooked! I actually purchased the little packets of saline to use. Next time I will buy a plastic neti pot --- they travel better!
Hi, how are you? I see you are back in Erie? Are you glad to be home? What do you do for fun there? All I can remember about Erie is the mall and the Chi Chi's which were both steps up from life in Meadeville :)
I also hear that continued use of the neti pot keeps you from getting nasty viruses, who usually get to you through your nose!
I have been meaning to get one for a while, and now I am really inspired to do it.
I hope it helps you!
ewwwwww
ooo yuck! i tried one once and felt like i was drowning... total panic. warm up some saline nasal spray. put drops of eucalyptus oil in the bath. hope you feel better!
Yes, back in Erie and actually happy being here with my family. The area has grown into a "tourist trap" and I am right in the middle of it working for a hotel company. Fun in Erie??? The long awaited casino opened yesterday by the mall and until summer ... not much fun happening! I had forgotten how gray the skies are here ... I miss the Colorado sun!
