Classic Mr. Gibson

Friday, March 31, 2006

Dave has these photos in his Flickr account and I just had to post them. The first one is classic Gibson. He is one handsome dog. I mean he is one Hot Dog. Ha, had to add the pun. Did I mention that I think we are psychically connected?

So the reason I post this picture is that this look represents "whatever Mr. Gibson wants, Mr. Gibson gets", because he is so cute we can't help it. Unfortunately he's also a total PITA 80% of the time.

The second one was caught last year when DG took Gibson out for doggie day at the pool. Unfortunately, Gibson HATES the water. We learned that on a trip to Albuquerque, NM last year when staying with a family with 3 large dogs who jumped in the pool all day long. DG finally tossed Gibson in, and he hated it. His tiny little legs would doggie paddle to the edge, where he could never get himself pushed up to get out. This face pretty much tells it all.

Please, please dad, you know I HATE the water. *whimper* please don't make me go back, please. I'll be good for like the next 5 minutes, I promise. Just don't make me go back there. I never learned the doggie paddle.

Ok, seriously, now that we are over this water thing, I really deserve a treat or something. Like I haven't barked in over 60 seconds or anything.

Are there dachshunds who do like water? Those poor little legs have enough problems just trying to walk.
Do you remember that we had one when I was growing up until junior year? Dexter was pretty neurotic, and afraid of cats. His one good skill was "protecting" my mom by barking hysterically while dad would pretend to attack her. I've had a generally poor opinion of his breed ever since, although hearing about your dogs and my cousin Jeanne's has changed my mind a bit. But I'd rather have the polar opposite, a Bull Mastif.

So I had to add another funny picture to the post that I forgot. I've been doing that a lot lately. According to DG , there were dachshunds there that did like the water. Tica loves the hose too. Gibson is just v. neurotic.

I don't remember you guys having one! I remember you having a big Beagle. Is my memory askew? I have become a Dachshund convert. My love for the wiener is never ending. I never want to own another breed. DG is ready to get 3rd...wha?!?! You know it must be true love when he eats his own poop, uses cat boxes as a snack buffet, and will gulp down as many used tampons as he can (before getting a trash can with a lid) only to wake me up at 2am to go outside and puke them up....and still I can't get enough of him.

I can't even say how grossed out that makes me. And I clean poopy diapers all day.

Mom got Sophie, the beagle/basset hound/maybe dachsund mix when I was in college. A stubborn, stupid, smelly dog that only Mom loved. Can you tell I'm not a dog person? I'll have to change my ways, Nathan is already talking about wanting a puppy, but Claire needs to be older and we need to be homeowners again.

Sophie is the dog I remember. I have a specific memory of Sophie as well. Not so bright that Sophie.

You can research dogs online to make sure that you get a breed that is good with children.
