Ghosts of Halloween Past

Monday, October 31, 2005

My earliest memory of Halloween goes back to the age of 3 and my obsession with Wonder Woman. It was 1974, and we didn’t have a lot of money, so my dad threw a costume together for me consisting of an old white pillow case as a cape, and hand drawn blue W's on a piece of paper on my front. These are great photos of my dad, getting me ready to go trick or treating. I love them because they show him at the age of 25, loving me. He was so young, and yet and so my daddy and so convincing me that I was Wonder Woman. I may look like a girl in a sheet, blue eyeshadow and a pumpkin flashlight, but I WAS Wonder Woman, and I was happy.

I have had many years to improve this costume, and have jumped into my invisible jet, bullet proof bracelets, and golden lasso no less than 6 times, but of all of them, this one is my favorite memory.

Dad looks so young. He's so pimp working that sweet stash and a bit of sideburns.
